Golf legend Tiger Woods is recovering from surgery at a Los Angeles hospital after a car accident left him with some serious leg injuries yesterday.
Surgeons placed a rod in his lower right leg and screws and pins in his foot and ankle.
According to the hospital’s chief medical officer, the golfer suffered “significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity.” He sustained “open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula.”
Tiger was traveling alone at around 7 am in Rancho Palos Verdes when he apparently lost control of the SUV.
The vehicle crossed two oncoming lanes, hit a curb and a tree and rolled over several times before coming to a stop on its side in a grassy area. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities said that it did not appear Woods was impaired.
Tiger was in the area for his annual Genesis Invitational golf tournament.
Golf Digest says Tiger was scheduled to arrive at Riviera Golf Course at 7:30 AM for a shoot. He was reportedly going to give Drew Brees lessons. Problem is, that golf course is an hour from Tiger’s hotel, so he was running late.
A member of the crew working on the TV show "Grown-ish" said Tiger nearly hit his director’s car as he sped away from the hotel, just before the crash.
