The Little Mermaid Dominates The Box Office With $163.5 Million Worldwide

The Little Mermaid dominated Memorial Day weekend box office. The Disney release is on track to debut to a massive $118 million over the four-day holiday, with $96 million of that coming over the three-day frame. It ranks as the fifth highest Memorial Day opening in history.

Internationally, the film grossed $68.3 million from 51 material markets.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore told Variety,

“This gives Disney the green light to keep mining its vault,” “With an opening this big, I think you’re going to keep seeing these live-action reboots.”

According to Deadline:

The Little Mermaid with a three-day opening of $95.5M and a four-day projection of $117.5M. Factoring in the international box office bow of $68.3M, that makes for an estimated $163.8M global debut through Sunday.

The Little Mermaid , played by Halle Bailey, follows a mermaid princess Ariel who is fascinated with the human world and makes a deal with a treacherous sea witchUrsula, Melissa McCarthy. trade her voice to human legs in order to impress Prince Eric, who is saved from a shipwreck, before the time runs out.
