Taraji P. Henson to Star in THE COLOR PURPLE Musical Film as Shug Avery

Taraji P. Henson will star as Shug Avery in Blitz Bazawule's “The Color Purple.”
According to Variety, Henson will join the previously announced Corey Hawkins as Harpo and H.E.R. as Squeak. Singer H.E.R. is working with the film's creative team to write a new song for the film.
The film is expected to hit theaters in 2023.
