#MarthaLynnSherrod was the first African American judge elected to a countywide seat in Madison County. Before that, she was presiding municipal judge, assistant district attorney and taught criminal justice at Alabama A&M. Sherrod developed the state's first court program for parents with substance-abuse problems and later launched a similar program for juveniles.
