On Saturday, fans gathered outside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and watched a YouTube Livestream to celebrate the life of DMX.
A monster truck carrying DMX’s casket led a procession of hundreds of Ruff Ryders on motorbikes from his hometown of Yonkers, New York, to DMX’s memorial.
Fashion brand Balenciaga collaborated with Kanye West's Yeezy to create a T-shirt tribute to DMX with the net proceeds from the $200 shirt benefiting DMX’s family.
Kanye and his Sunday Service choir kicked off the memorial with several songs before DMX's family, including his fiancée Desiree Lindstrom and his kids appeared on the stage with the group.
Swizz Beatz gave a stern message to the people who failed DMX when he was still alive. He shared love to DMX's family and his late friend, but he didn't hide his anger in seeing some faces in the crowd he knew didn't have DMX's back. Swizz says if anything, DMX's death has taught him the importance of loyalty and keeping good people in his circle.
Nas also spoke during the ceremony, calling DMX a "longtime friend" and "hip-hop icon" and told the crowd,"It's an honor to be here tonight but at the same time, it's a sad day. It's a glorious day. I just want to say I'm honored to be here.”
Eve shared a few words as she stood next to Swizz Beatz. She said, ”I am seriously the luckiest, luckiest woman in the world to have been adopted by the Ruff Ryders, but to have known DMX the way that I knew him as a man, a father, a friend. This is so hard y'all. What I pray, what I hope, I pray to God, I pray to our angels, our ancestors, that his journey was smooth. I know that he will rest in power. Rest in love, but most of all he feel rest in peace.”
DMX's family has also had a private funeral service yesterday at a church in the New York City area.
