Beyoncé Will Receive Humanitarian Honor During ‘2020 BET Awards’

Beyoncé will be honored with the prestigious Humanitarian Award at the upcoming 20th annual BET Awards show, airing on BET and CBS on June 28 at 8 p.m. EDT.

The cable channel made the announcement Thursday, along with new additions to the virtual event’s star-studded roster, including Lil’ Wayne’s tribute to late Lakers star Kobe Bryant, and a memorial to rock & roll pioneer Little Richard by Emmy Award winner Wayne Brady.

Along with her illustrious career, Beyoncé is recognized as a philanthropist who has created several initiatives to give back to the world at large, including scholarships to college students, bringing safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi and recently providing relief and assistance to essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Juneteenth, following the release of her latest song, “Black Parade,” the 24-time Grammy Award winner announced the creation of BeyGOOD’s Black Business Fund, administered by the National Urban League, to support black-owned small businesses.

BeyGOOD is Beyoncé's charity program, created during the Mrs. Carter World Tour in 2013.

The socially-distanced “2020 BET Awards” broadcast will also honor Nicolas Johnson, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and D-Niceas the 2020 Shine a Light Honorees, which recognizes “exceptional resilience, ingenuity and creativity in the face of adversity.”
