16-Year-Old Senior, Picks Cornell University After Getting Over 185 College Offers

New Orleans high school senior who broke the national record for college and scholarship offers. announced where he will be attending in the fall.


Dennis Barnes, 16, has 185 college offers and $10.1 million in scholarships.


Barnes announced that he has committed to Cornell University. He will major in computer science and explore a career in software development.



"This is an exciting time for my family, and I am thankful for the support," said Barnes.


"Today, I am pleased to announce my final college decision for the fall of 2023," Barnes said this morning at his high school campus, located in New Orleans.


“It is an honor and privilege to be accepted to the Ivy League Cornell University’s College of Engineering in Ithaca, New York,"



He then put on a red and white Cornell sweatshirt with cheers and applause.


"I express great gratitude for the support system both in high school, at home and professors at the collegiate level," Barnes said. "I have committed to Cornell University and intend to pursue computer science to later move on to practice software development."


Barnes' advice for seniors is to be vigilant and set the bar high.
