R&B Singer R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison in a Chicago federal courtroom following his conviction last year on charges of child pornography and enticement of a minor, his second in the past year.
56 year-old R. Kelly is already serving a 30-year prison term for his 2021 conviction on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in a New York federal court.
US Attorney Northern District of Illinois John Lausch said,
"A 20-year sentence in this case is impactful," "That ensures that there will be a significant amount of time that R. Kelly will not be out on the streets to do additional harm to others."
A federal judge rejected a call from prosecutors to keep R. Kelly behind bars until he is 100, instead telling the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer he would serve all but one of his 20 years on child sex convictions simultaneously with a previous sentence.
Kelly was also ordered to pay $42,000 for therapy costs of Pauline.
