PBS Scores $1.5 Million Win vs Tavis Smiley

A jury in Washington, DC awarded PBS nearly $1.5 million from former talk show host Tavis Smiley.

In 2017, the public broadcaster suspended Smiley upon allegations of sexual misconduct.

PBS then took Smiley to court claiming he breached a morals clause in his contract.  At trial, PBS presented more than half a dozen women who spoke how they were pressured into relationships or had become the victim of unwanted advances.

A jury decided that the former late night talk show host should pay $1.486 million to PBS for violating the clause.
